Menopause

Menopause is medically defined by cessation of menstruation for a full year in a woman previously in the childbearing age range. Menopause is accompanied by a drop in levels of sex hormones, namely estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Prior to its onset, women can already feel the effects of the fall of progesterone levels and the occurrence of cycles during which they ovulate more. These symptoms may be followed by menstrual irregularities and erratic bleeding.

The dominance of estrogen relative to progesterone in some women can result in irritability, sleep problems, anxiety, fatigue, mood disorders or even memory problems.

The decline in estrogen associated with the onset of menopause is often associated with hot flashes (vasomotor symptoms). Women may experience hot flashes from two to five years prior to menopause but in some women, they may last for decades. Other symptoms associated with menopause include:
  • night sweats
  • nausea
  • dizziness
  • palpitations
  • vaginal dryness
  • decreased libido
  • genital or urinary discomfort
Sex hormones are responsible for maintaining the high level of metabolism necessary for reproduction. Their reduction will therefore result in a net decrease in the metabolism and accelerate the aging process that may include osteoporosis and the disabilities that result from it.

As part of our commitment to anti-aging, Crea-MeD encourages hormone replacement therapy for all women after all risks of breast cancer or cancers of the sex organs are ruled out. All women receiving hormone replacement therapy are carefully monitored with an annual mammography and screenings for cervical, uterus and ovarian cancers.

Crea-MeD favors bio-identical hormone therapy, preferring hormones whose chemical structure are identical to those your body produces and not to compounds whose chemical structure have been altered for commercial purposes.

The clinical response to treatment is assessed according to both individual well-being and also by measuring hormone levels when appropriate. Depending on the specific needs of each individual the hormonal evaluation may be done either through blood tests or through salivary assays.
